Rochon Born from Torrance (a suburb of Los Angeles), is the daughter Zelma Staples. Her parents are Samuel Staples a graphic designer and businessman. She graduated in 1982 of Cerritos High School in Cerritos, California. In 1986 she received her bachelor's degree with honors from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and obtained a bachelor's in broadcast journalism, with minors in theatre and sociology. In the year 2016, Rochon came back to CSUDH as the keynote speaker at the ceremony to celebrate the start of the College of Arts and Humanities

Ullerup performed the role of Julia Brynn in the 2006 remake of Battlestar Galactica, which was shown through the Sci Fi Channel. Ullerup was Ashley Magnus for the first season as well as the second one on Sanctuary prior to her character being created. Fans wanted her back despite the fact that the show had been cancelled. Ullerup appeared in Chesapeake Shores as Bree O'Brien. Ullerup was Maggie Thomas the estranged husband of Michael Thomas. In 2016, Ullerup has had a recurring character as Dale Travers in Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered movies series.
